Ministry of Interior’s implementing unit, Center for Research and Studies Team, shares its views on the United Nations Joint Programme for which it has assumed national coordination.
Bulletin: What are your opinions on the current phase and the Programme in general?
"Happy individual, peaceful society" is one of the main goals and policies of our Ministry. Our project’s aim is to identify the problems of our women and girls at local and national levels, and seek the best solutions to them. In this respect, it is moving towards its target safely.
Bulletin: How does UNJP help you?
UNJP gave us experience in managing projects with international organizations, and since it also involves non-governmental organizations, it provided an extra added value. The women's rights issue is one of the focuses of our state, as well as being a high priority agenda for European Union accession. The report "Women's Rights in Turkey," prepared by the European Parliament MP Emine Bozkurt and approved in the European Parliament, emphasizes the cooperation between the civil society and the government, as well as the importance and value given to women's rights.
The project, Joint Programme to Protect and Promote the Human Rights of Women and Girls involves cooperation with civil society organizations, focuses on the issues emphasized in the report, and also takes important steps in creating awareness in administrators to work towards solving women's needs.
Bulletin: What is the approach in this matter in the Ministry?
Close interest and enthusiasm displayed by our Minister and Undersecretary encourages us in our work. Our efforts as the Ministry to seek measures to solve problems of our women and girls are continuing. The circular of our Ministry on "Establishing perspective on women's and girls' rights in strategic plans to be prepared by local governments" stressed the determination of our Ministry in this area.
Bulletin: What are your opinions on solving the problems of women and girls?
We, both in our personal lives and careers, encounter with various problems faced by women and girls. When we were seeking solutions to these problems, we saw that cooperation was necessary for reaching solutions. The most important step towards reaching solutions will be to create an awareness and establish a women’s perspective in those governing and governed, women and men, young and old, in all parts of our society.
Bulletin: What do you, as the team of Ministry of Interior, think of the Programme?
When we are carrying out this project, we always keep in mind that each one of us is the son of a mother, the life-long friend of a woman, the brother of a woman, and the father of a girl, and also we are a part of this society as a family. We firmly believe in solving the problems of our women, and wish and hope that "Women-friendly Cities", one of the goals of the United Nations Joint Programme, is spread throughout the country. We are working towards the goal, "Happy individual, peaceful society."
