
The United Nations Joint Programme organized an essay contest on the theme of “Women-friendly City.” Thousands of booklets, covering the contest terms, have been distributed to students, and bills were posted at schools.
The United Nations Joint Programme (UNJP) organized an essay contest on the theme of "Women-friendly City."The contest is open to high school and equivalent degree students in the six pilot provinces, İzmir, Kars, Nevşehir, Şanlıurfa, Trabzon and Van, where the United Nations Joint Programme to Protect and Promote the Human Rights of Women and Girls is being carried out. Thousands of booklets were distributed to students, and bills were posted in schools for the essay contest, announced by the local government officials on 8 March, the International Women's Day. Students are asked to write essays on the theme of "Women-friendly City" in a maximum of three A4 pages and submit their work for the contest. Essays are to be submitted to the school principals by 13 April, and the submitted essays will be evaluated by juries formed exclusively in each province.Evaluations will be held individually in each province, and the winners for three essays from each province will be rewarded. The top winner will be rewarded with a desktop computer, while the runners up will receive a photo camera and an MP3 player, respectively.
The results of the contest will be advertised in the UNJP website www.protectingwomen.org.
Rewards will be presented to the winners in a ceremony to be held in Ankara on 11 May.
