Sabancı Foundation Grant Program Results Are In

There were 84 applications received during the second year of the Sabancı Foundation Grant Program, which had been started for the purpose of giving support to local projects. After the 30 projects passed the initial elimination, they were assessed once again by the program partners.

United Nations Joint Program 2008 Semi Annual Review Meeting was realized in Kars.

The United Nations (UN) Extended Gender Thematic Group gathered for the Semi-Annual Review Meeting of the UN Joint Programme on Protecting and Promoting the Human Rights of Women and Girls. The Meeting took place on 13 June 2008 at the DSİ Meeting Hall in Kars.

Certificate ceremony of the projects run by the Kars Municipality and the Kars Governorship under the Sabancı Foundation Grant Program took place on the 13th of June 2008 in Kars.

The certificate ceremony of both projects supported by the Sabancı Foundation Grant Program “Women in Local Administration” which was run by Kars Governorship, and the “Municipality – NGO hand in hand” that was run by the Kars Municipality took place after the opening session of UN Joint Programme Semi Annual Review Meeting.

The First Round of Evaluation Results of the Sabancı Foundation Grant Scheme for the year 2008 announced.

Sabanci Foundation Grant Program Announced

The Sabanci Foundation announced its 2007 grant recipients on 12 September 2007 as part of the United Nations Joint Program on “Promoting and Protecting the Human Rights of Women and Girls”, which is being rolled out in 6 cities across Turkey (Izmir, Kars, Nevsehir, Sanliurfa, Trabzon, Van).

UN Joint Programme 2007 Semi-annual Review Meeting held in Şanlıurfa

UN Extended Gender Thematic Group convened in Şanlıurfa at El Ruha Hotel on 30 May 2007 Wednesday to review the semi-annual progress of the UN Joint Programme to Protect and Promote the Human Rights of Women and Girls.

Student Essay Competition on “Women Friendly Cities”

The United Nations Joint Programme-UNJP organized an essay competition on Women Friendly Cities,open to all high-school students in the six programme cities (İzmir, Kars, Nevşehir, Şanlıurfa, Trabzon and Van).

The winners of the competition will receive personal computers,
Runner-Ups will get digital cameras and
Second Runner-Ups will receive MP3 players,
Winners in each city will be published on the UNJP’s web site.

How UNJP Got Started

Turkey has made several reforms to enhance the women's rights and also contributed to the UN gender projects.
Several successful projects conducted by the UN have contributed significantly to a better understanding of gender and women's rights issues in Turkey. However, to achieve a lasting and cumulative result for gender issues, an umbrella programme was essential.
